SpecsMate founder Filip Balo grew up in Zrenjanin, Serbia, inside Optika Prima, the optical store his family opened in 1992. Long before he could legally work, he spent his days on the shop floor, learning the business, watching how glasses were prescribed, explained and sold, and spotting every place it could be better.
One problem kept coming back: clients were asked to choose lenses they could not see, based on explanations they did not fully understand. And it was not just his family's store. Every practice has the same conversation.
He digitalised the practice and tried every optical tool the manufacturers offered, but he still had to switch between two or three of them for a single client. So, slowly but surely, he built everything in one place. That is how SpecsMate was born.
